Three summoned in Rs6bn NPF land scam

LAHORE, Feb 23: The Federal Investigation Agency has summoned three former National Police Foundation (NPF) officials on Feb 28 in connection with the Rs6 billion land scam.

PML-N MNA Aqeel Anjum, the prime accused, has given an undertaking that he will clear off his liabilities.

He is accused of undertaking illegal transactions of sale and purchase of commercial and residential land with the NPF worth Rs6 billion between 2002 and 2004 in Islamabad.

He did so in connivance with former managing director of the foundation, a DIG and an additional secretary.

"Aqeel Anjum has given us undertaking that he will clear off his liabilities worth Rs5.8 billion," FIA Additional Director Zafar Ahmed Qureshi told Dawn on Tuesday. Mr Zafar, who is an inquiry officer of the NPF scam, said the agency had succeeded in recovering the huge amount in a few weeks which the foundation could not in six years.

He said former NPF officials – Iftikhar Ahmed, Laeeq Ahmed and Adnan Ahmed – had been summoned for Feb 28 to clear their position with regard to the allegations against them.

"Although Mr Aqeel has agreed to clear his liabilities, we will see omissions and commissions in the case and subsequently submit the report to the Supreme Court," Mr Qureshi said.
