| LAHORE, Feb 23: A fine of Rs327,000 was imposed on 540 traders for selling essential items more than the prices fixed by the City District Government of Lahore. District Coordination Officer Ahad Khan Cheema expressed displeasure over the performance of price magistrates on Wednesday while directing that disciplinary action be initiated against those showing negligence in this regard. He asked the magistrates to keep a record of habitual profiteers and carry out follow-up raids on a regular basis. He also directed the district officer (labour) and meat inspectors to regularly check weight machines of traders and ensure display of official price list at prominent places in shops. Mr Cheema directed the town municipal officers of all the nine towns of Lahore to keep a vigil on marriage ceremonies arranged anywhere in their areas of jurisdiction and with the help of area police, the law should be enforced in letter and spirit. Cases should immediately be got registered against the violators, irrespective of their status and the name of complainant should not be disclosed at any cost. — Staff Reporter |
