Varsity seals hostels after students’ clash

FAISALABAD, April 30: The National Textile University administration on Friday night sealed all its hostels and got registered a case against more than 250 students on the charge of damaging the university property during a clash.

The administration has also rescheduled the bachelor's degree examinations. Now the exams will commence on May 3 and some papers fixed for May 2 will be held on May 8.

Two groups of students clashed on the campus on Friday over the parking of a vehicle as a result of which five students suffered injuries. The students, who used clubs and sticks, also damaged the university property and broke the windowpanes of the main library. The administration tried to pacify them but all in vain.

The administration sealed the three hostels — two for boys and one for girls – and had to call the police on resistance.

Of the 1,350 students enrolled in the university, as many as 550 are availing themselves of the hostel facility on the campus.

The Disciplinary Advisory Committee got footages of CCTV cameras and decided to take action against 28 of the students.

The Millat Town police registered a case under sections 380, 341, 427, 149, 148 of PPC and arrested Adeel Usman, Abdul Quddus, Umair Ameen, Muhammad Hassan, Hafiz Suleman, Zobair Hassan, Fakher Hayat, Sarwar Mansoor, Faisal Nasir, Fida Ahmed, Muhammad Ahsan and Sami Arshad.

Sources said the administration had called the parents of the students and issued them warning.

The decision of rescheduling the examination was taken at the University Management Committee which rescheduled one paper. It will be held on May 8 instead of May 2. The remaining papers of all classes will be held according to the schedule already issued by the university. The committee reopened the girl's hostel.
