Four LHC judges resume job today

LAHORE, April 28: The Lahore High Court registrar on Thursday received a notification from the federal law ministry of one-year extension to four LHC judges who will resume judicial work on Friday (today). The judges are Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali, Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh, Justice Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan and Justice Syed Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi. They were appointed on Feb 19, 2010 as additional judges for one year. The Judicial Commission, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, recommended their one-year extension but the parliamentary committee rejected it. Later, the committee's decision was challenged before the Supreme Court which set aside the order. The government filed a review petition but the SC dismissed it and ordered it to issue notification forthwith about the extension of these judges.
