| KARACHI, March 27: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has announced the formation of a new wing of the party which will not only assist the party`s coordination committee, but also play its role in crafting a new election manifesto of the MQM. The announcement of the formation of the new wing — MQM Central Council — was made by MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar at a press conference on Sunday. He said that the new wing would be responsible for spreading the message of the party across the country. "The central council will assist the coordination committee in meeting important national challenges and making of important policies. Members of the council will also play a role in the drafting of electoral manifesto and political programmes of the party and its promotion." He appealed to professionals, social and religious personalities, industrialists, former bureaucrats and retired army officers, etc, to come forward and join the MQM. However, he did not announce the organisational structure of the new wing of the MQM. Dr Sattar, who is a deputy convenor of the MQM coordination committee, evaded a question about the increasing targeted killings in the metropolis, saying that he did not want to reply to the question because his press conference was not on that issue. |
