Islamabad on high alert

ISLAMABAD: The capital's administration and the police will be on their toes to deal with the fans' reaction to the semifinal's outcome.

As the trend of watching the match on big screens in different parts of the city is catching on, the officials expect huge number of people, especially youth, on roads on Wednesday.

They say a win against India will disturb flow of traffic, result in firing in the air and fireworks on roads and residential areas. After the victory against West Indies in the quarterfinal, similar scenes were witnessed in Islamabad.

But if Pakistan is knocked out, fans' angry outpourings may create 'law and order situation', according to an official.

A police officer said the capital would be on high alert on March 30. A contingent of 600 well-equipped policemen along with anti-riot unit and anti-terrorist squad will be deployed around the places showing the match on big screens. He said the fans would not be allowed to carry firearms and firecrackers.

Fans will be frisked before entering the big screens venues through a 'single entry point'. The Quick Response Units in all police stations will be on standby. — Staff Reporter
