| One beautiful winter morning, while sitting in my lawn under the soothing sun, I saw something heart-warming. There was a pair of birds sitting outside my bedroom's window. I kept observing them and got to know that the birds were making a nest on my window. They were collecting twigs and bits of dried leaves from the lawn. The birds were working in a very well-coordinated manner — one bird flew to collect the leaves and branches while the other stayed at the nest to build it. And at last — with their joint efforts — the pair of birds became successful in building the nest. Now it was time for them to live in their newly-built house, lay eggs and wait for the eggs to hatch. I became so attached to them that I used to observe them regularly. I also fed them and took care of their nest so that no other bird or animal destroyed or stole their eggs. Soon two cute little babies came out of the eggs — they were fragile, they had no feathers on their bodies. But with the passage of time, they grew up and became beautiful birds like their parents. The presence of this beautiful family made me feel close to nature; I felt happy in their company. Their chirping and tweeting soothed my ears — I felt refreshed seeing the beautiful sight of birds singing and playing together. My exams were near and I had to study a lot. Now I didn't have time to take care of the birds as most of my time at home was spent preparing for the exams. My exams continued for more than a week and I totally forgot about the birds. After the exams, when I realised that I hadn't paid much attention lately to those lovely creatures, I rushed outside and was shocked to see that there was no nest there! I could not stop myself from crying as due to my negligence a big bird or cat had destroyed the nest and the family either died or flew to some other place. I felt guilty and prayed to God to forgive me. This painful experience made me realise that when we are busy, we tend to forget about our duty towards nature. If I could have found a little time to take care of the nest, the birds' family wouldn't have to suffer! Likewise, if we had all taken time out to take care of all natural things around us and other creatures, the world would not be facing many of the problems that it is troubled with today. |
