Govt ready to evacuate Pakistanis from Libya, says FS

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Thursday said that it was concerned over the prevailing turmoil in Libya and expressed its hope that the situation would return to normalcy soon there.

Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir while addressing a news conference here at Foreign Office said that the repatriation of Pakistanis from Libya is under consideration.

Bashir said there are about eighteen thousand Pakistanis living in different parts of Libya and it is the responsibility of the Government of Pakistan to ensure their safe evacuation.

The foreign secretary said that all efforts are being made to ensure the safety of Pakistanis in Libya. Two aircrafts are ready to bring Pakistanis back home, he added.

Answering a question on the issue of Raymond Davis, Bashir said the Foreign Ministry is mindful of its constitutional, legal and institutional responsibilities in the case of Davis and also alive to its responsibilities under Pakistani law.

He said: "The issue has many dimensions and we believe in rule of law."
