LTC inducts 100 transport inspectors

LAHORE, April 14: The Lahore Transport Company has inducted 100 new transport enforcement inspectors to maintain discipline in public service transport in the city.

Presiding over a meeting at the Chief Minister's Secretariat here on Thursday, LTC chairman Khwaja Ahmed Hassan said a comprehensive plan of action had been devised to execute new transport system in the city.

He said the state of the art transport-related infrastructure would be provided under which bus terminals and depots were being set up in order to provide standardised and affordable transport facilities to the people.

Hassan said the officers of LTC should also perform their duties in the field rather than sitting in the office. He said all possible assistance would be provided to the private transport companies so that adequate facilities could be provided to the public.

He said arrangements for the provision of efficient urban transport were being made. He said concrete measures were being taken to eliminate illegal transport on various routes of the city.

The chairman said the scheme for the refurbishment of the old buses had been initiated and some 250 old buses identified for the purpose.

He said third-party evaluation had been conducted in order to ascertain the extent of maintenance of these buses under refurbishment scheme.

He said the chief minister had appreciated the free transport card scheme for the old and disabled people in the city. He also directed to take action against illegal occupation of some advertising agencies on LTC's bus shelters in Lahore.

GM (Operations) Asad Rehman Gillani said some elements belonging to advertising companies had occupied the bus shelters of LTC unlawfully and the company had launched a crackdown on them. The DCO, CTO, MPA Mehr Ishtiaq, CEO J.I.Kim and the general managers operations, finance and enforcement were also present.
