PLF grabs major posts in Bar polls

HYDERABAD, March 27: Backed by the People`s Lawyers Forum, Nisar Durrani, has been elected president of the Hyderabad District Bar Association, according to unofficial results of the elections of the bar held on Saturday. Mr Durrani beat independent candidate Ghulamullah Chang. Basharat Memon of the Durrani group was elected general secretary and Abdul Khaliq Leghari of PLF vice-president. Other office-bearers are: Farhad Abro, joint secretary, Abdullah Qazi, library secretary, and Shahzad Ali Shah, finance secretary. Seven members of the new managing committee are: Khai Kumar, Bilal Rajput, Sana Memon, Nadir Junejo, Shahzeb Abbasi, Asadullah Shah and Abdul Jabbar Behlai. The Sindh Bar Council had restrained HDBA`s election commissioner from announcing results of the elections on March 25 but Pakistan Bar Council suspended the SBC order on March 26 after an appeal filed by Basharat Ali Memon. < /td>
