Gilani’s visit: clarification

ISLAMABAD, March 29: In reference to a report "Kashmir not on Gilani's visit agenda" published in Dawn's Tuesday issue, a government spokesman has said that the headline is not in consonance with the contents of the report based on a briefing by Information Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan. The spokesman said: "For the record, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani will be going to India upon the invitation of his Indian counterpart to watch a game of cricket, as a demonstration of the democratic government's unflinching commitment to regional peace and cooperation with all its neighbours, including India. "However, at no point, must this be seen as the democratic government's compromising its primary responsibility of protecting and promoting Pakistan's national interests, including a peaceful and just resolution of the Kashmir issue."
