22 Customs officers suspended

ISLAMABAD, Feb 26: In a major decision taken apparently in connection with the 'container case', 22 Customs officials were suspended by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Saturday with immediate effect.

An official said that FBR members (Customs, Tax and Audit) were in Karachi investigating the container case when the Federal
Board of Revenue issued three notifications suspending the officials under the Efficiency and Discipline Rules, 1973.

Six of the suspended officials (grade 18) are: Jamshed Ali Talpur, Deputy Commissioner, RTO Karachi; Habib Ahmad, Deputy Collector, MCC (PACCS) Karachi; Mona Iffat Baloch, Deputy Director, Valuation (Customs) Karachi; Abdul Waheed Marwat, Second Secretary, FBR Islamabad; Sami ul Haq, Deputy Director, I&I, FBR, Islamabad; and Yousuf Haider Orakzai, Second Secretary, FBR Islamabad.

Four officers (grade 16) working as Principal Appraiser at Appraisement Karachi are: Agha Muhammad Aslam, Sardar Amin Farooqi, Niamatullah Alvi and S.M. Wasim Qazmi.

Twelve suspended Appraisers (grade-15), who were posted in Karachi, are: Tariq Aziz, Abdul Aziz Umrani, Ghulam Muhammad, Sikandar Ali Junejo, Bashir Ahmad Sehar, Abbas Khan, Anjum Barakzai, Anwar Khan, Nawab Touqir Khan, Munir Ahmed Barohi, Qaiser Nadeem Chattha and Noor Akbar Mehar.
