White paper on Punjab govt’s performance

LAHORE, April 15: The All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) has issued a 'white paper' on three-year performance of the Punjab government.

APML spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry presented the nine-page paper at a press conference here on Friday.

According to the white paper, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, after assuming the charge of his office three years ago, made a number of promises with the people of Punjab but he hardly "honoured any of his words".

It said the chief minister had promised establishing an IT university at his 7-Club Road office, disposing of bulletproof vehicles and spending the proceeds on improving urban transport system, opening open courts in the province to redress the grievances of people, introducing systems for the improvement of the health care and education systems, ensuring availability of Roti at Rs2 across the province and completing his cabinet as he was still holding 13 portfolios.

Besides, the chief minister, instead of strengthening the devolution of power to "show his love for democracy", restored the British-era magistracy system. The Sharif family's sugar mills caused worst sugar crisis in the province.

"Of the total 900 Elite Force personnel, 600 are doing security duties with Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz. Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has links with terror organisations while security situation is deteriorating day by day," it said and alleged that the Punjab government employees had also deputed to 'take care of Nawaz Sharif's matters'," it added.

The paper said the Sharif brothers were behind the crisis of poultry feed and meat. When the PML-N came to power, the province had Rs87 billion in the kitty but now it had an overdraft of Rs87 billion, it added.

Fawad asked as to who was responsible for the death of a number of patients during the doctors' strike. "Shahbaz Sharif had time to give reception to the Pakistani cricket team but did not bother to see the protesting doctors," he added. He said former president Gen Pervez Musharraf would telephonically address party workers in Sodiwal area on Sunday. He said the former president would soon return to Pakistan.
