| LAHORE, April 15: Supreme Court Bar Association President Asma Jahangir has expressed concern and taken a serious note of threats hurled to Barrister Kamal Azfar.
In a statement issued here on Friday, she warned that the bar would not tolerate any act of intimidation to its members by the government or its cronies. She said Kamal Azfar was a senior advocate who discharged his professional duties in the NRO case. As a professional lawyer he was bound by professional ethics and any attempt to pressurise or threaten him in the discharge of his responsibilities was totally unacceptable, she said. Ms Asma said she expected that the president and the prime minister would take notice of this scandalous incident and rein in their political spin masters as well as tender an apology to Kamal Azfar. She said the SCBA particularly deplored that the wife of Mr Azfar was approached to harass the family. The SCBA would closely watch the investigation and stand by any colleague who received any form of threat from any quarter, she said. — Staff Reporter |
