| PESHAWAR, April 16: A local court on Saturday dismissed pre-arrest bail petition of a professor of Islamia College University, Peshawar, charged in a case of replacing answer sheet of a student. The court of additional district and sessions judge, Arshid Khan, dismissed the petition after completion of arguments by both the parties. The court had few days ago granted interim pre-arrest bail to the accused but did not confirm the bail on Saturday. The accused, Prof Inayat Ali Shah, stated to be the chairman of Mathematics department of the university, was charged in the FIR registered at University Campus police station on Feb 28 under section 419, 420, 468, 120-B and some other sections of Pakistan Penal Code. The controller of the examination, Mohammad Javed, is complainant in the case. An official at the police station concerned told Dawn that despite the dismissal of his bail petition he was not a rrested as the high-ups of the university informed the police that they had been trying to resolve the issue on administration level. He added that as the complainant did not press his arrest, therefore, they had not taken the teacher into custody. Advocate Ameenur Rehman appeared for the complainant and contended that the accused had visited the examination section on Feb 21 and had taken away answer sheet of a student of MSc classes by influencing the staff deputed there. He added that the next day the accused returned a photocopy of the said sheet instead of the original copy. The counsel stated when the complainant came to know about the incident he registered the instant case. He added that by taking away and replacing the answer sheet the accused had committed forgery along with several other offences. |
